John Knight

Managing Director

John started work as a 15 year old after leaving Lady Mary’s R.C. High School in Cardiff with the Gomez family who were the original owners of the company. After 6 years working on the Electrical Contracting Division, during which time he attended college and successfully completed his apprenticeship he left to gain more experience with a Multi National Company. This involved working on the construction of the Heath Hospital (now known as the University Hospital of Wales)

In 1969 he was approached to rejoin the company in the capacity of foreman with the responsibility of training and supervising personnel in various Commercial, Industrial and Offshore Electrical Contracts. This position opened up the opportunity for John to see various countries worldwide taking 2 current prominent members of the firm with him (Keith Hill and Steve Rees) as Oil Rig contracts were procured.

John was promoted to General Manager in control of all Gomer contracts in 1985 and held that position for 10years before becoming Managing Director in 1995 as a result of the Management buyout involving himself, Keith and Dennis.

With his 44years experience in all aspects of Electrical and Mechanical Contracts he has been able to contribute greatly to the stability, growth and expansion of the company.

Keith Hill

Director

Keith joined Gomer a family run company straight from school at the age of 15. He served his apprenticeship obtaining his City & Guilds at 21. In the 70s he went on to fulfil Electrical Contracts on Oil Rigs in countries such as Korea, Nigeria, Spain, Norway,Finland, & the North Sea. In 1995 a management buyout became available and along with John Knight ( whom he served his apprenticeship with ) Gomer began to expand, Keith has many years varied Electrical Experience behind him and has worked his way up from Electrician, Supervisor, Qualifying Manager to Company Director, this year celebrates 40 years unbroken services with Gomer.

Dennis Willmott

Company Secretary

Dennis was part of the initial M.B.O of Gomer Electrical in 1995 and has an extensive experience as an Accountant Finance Manager and Finance Director in an industrial and manufacturing environment.

Educated at Whitchurch Grammar School and further educated to O.N.C, H.N.C and final exam level of certified accounting.

Dennis is both financially and operationally involved in a number of local businesses and helps to provide financial stability and control combined with an entrepreneurial approach to opportunities.

Steve Rees

General Manager

Steve joined Gomer Electrical straight from school at the age of 15 and served a varied apprenticeship working in many different industries. At the end of the apprenticeship he left Gomer to gain further experience working as maintenance electrician in the Petrol/Chemical industry, & British Steel working on HV and large DC plant. Steve rejoined Gomer Electrical and worked overseas on many Oil Rig platforms, he later moved on to Hussmann Refrigeration working in the refrigeration industry on installation and service contracts, training on refrigeration screw packs and gaining C&G 16TH Edition Regulation BS7671 & Inspection and Testing 2391. An opportunity existed for Steve to rejoin the current M.B.O. Company as a Projects Manager and has since been promoted to General Manager following continued company expansion.

Paul Devlin

Paul DevlinGeneral Manager - Scotland

Paul joined Gomer in 2003 after serving several Electrical companies for many years in Scotland faithfully as an electrician, charge hand, foreman through to Contracts Manager then promotion to Branch Manager level. He was responsible for Projects and designated clients in various fields including Retail, Commercial and Industrial developments. Clients including most main food retailers in different capacities, NHS, Bupa and national building companies within the Commercial and industrial environment. Projects managed and overseen have been in many locations within the British Isles and have been co-ordinated and man managed from both site and base. Certification include city and guilds, HNC Electrical Engineering, Action centred Leadership Core certificate and communications core to merit standard. Paul has successfully developed and overseen the expansion of Gomer Electrical throughout the Scotland region and was appointed General Manager in 2007. He is backed up by a strong and experienced Management team both in the Dundee Branch and Glasgow (East Kilbride) branch making Gomer Electrical Ltd Scotland a formidable and reliable Electrical Contractor

Charlie Dunstan

Branch Manager - Dundee

Charlie started his Electrical Apprenticeship in January 1975 with Holliday Hall Limited based at RAF Leuchars, working on the D.O.E./P.S.A. term contract. He worked on this contract for 20 years rising from Apprentice to Contracts Manager responsible for 15 Operatives and Contracts up to £100,000. After the sale of the PSA, He worked as a Service Manager with SERCO Services responsible for all Contract Staff at RAF Leuchars, RM Condor & Rosyth Naval Base, around 150 staff. He then moved on to McGill Electrical as Project Supervisor responsible for 30 Operatives and Contracts up to £500,000. From here he joined D.H.Morris as a Project Manager responsible for 50 Operatives and Contracts up to £2millon. After the unfortunate demise of D.H.Morris Charlie was delighted to accept the offer as Branch Manager of Gomer Electrical Dundee.

During his 33 years in the Electrical Industry Charlie has managed contracts as varied as full electrical installations of new build hotels, offices, schools and laboratory’s along with refurbishments of historic buildings, airfield ground lighting, wind farms etc. In fact it would be easier to list installations he has not done!

Charlie has updated his skills by completing courses in HV switching, 16th Edition Inspection & Testing, Qualifying Managing for NICEIC, Scottish Building Standards and holds a SJIB Grade Card as Contract Manager.

Ian Stuart

Estimating Manager - Scotland

Ian joined Gomer Electrical Ltd Scotland in August 2007. Ian served his apprenticeship with Glasgow’s best known independent Electrical Contractors before moving into Consultant Engineering .Having spent several years in Consultant Engineering he moved back to Contracting gaining experience in Industrial, Commercial, Petro-Chemical and Domestic Installations. Ian’s experience is utilised to the maximum within the Gomer Electrical Scotland remit.

As an integral senior member of the Management team in Scotland, Ian is responsible for overseeing all tendering stages of the estimating department and his valuable experience is also crucial to the commercial decision making of the Gomer Electrical Scotland Management team.

Ian’s qualifications include The C&G 2391 Inspection and Testing, Select BS7671 Test and Inspection which assists our Qualifying Department with technical assistance when required.

Steve Sadler

Branch Manager - Midlands

Steve left school at 16 to join Electrical Installations Ltd where he carried out his apprenticeship, gaining City & Guilds in electrical installation A, B & C. After taking 3 years out to travel and pursue other interests he rejoined EI Ltd working on all types of installations including busbar systems, shop fitting, fire alarms, refrigeration and air conditioning systems, gaining valuable experience at home and abroad. From here he joined Hussman Refrigeration gaining 16th Edition in IEE regs. Here, he worked on various supermarkets and industrial refrigeration systems, and was also trained to do refrigeration pipework. Steve then moved to Labrum Designs Ltd carrying on working on refrigeration and lighting systems etc. and also gained 16th Edition Inspection & Testing. In 2000 he moved to Gomer to start the Midland branch, where he is currently branch manager and also qualifying manager for the NICEIC.

Paul Brinkworth

Fire and Security

Paul joined Crown House Engineering in 1979 where he served his Electrical Apprenticeship and progressed to Contract Engineer status gaining City & Guilds Part 1, 2 & 3, BTEC ONC & HNC in Electrical Engineering. During his career Paul has had extensive experience within the Fire & Security Industry and with his wealth of knowledge of system design and procedures within the Fire Industry can provide valuable experience in this specialist field.
